Monday, June 8: Day 1- Depart USA for Madrid
Tuesday, June 9: Day 2 – Arrive in Madrid. After we check into our hotel, we walk to the Cathedral for Mass. The rest of the day free to explore the city of Madrid.
Wednesday, June 10: Day 3 – After breakfast and morning prayer, we’ll make our way by bus to the town of Astorga, a ancient strategic Roman crossroad and one of the most important Pilgrim towns. Mass and overnight will be spent in this town. The next morning, we begin our 11 day/165 mile ‘walking discernment pilgrimage.’
Thursday, June 11: Day 4 – Astorga – Rabanal del Camino (13 miles)
Friday, June 12: Day 5 – Rabanal del Camino – Molinaseca (16 miles and the highest elevation at 4,940 feet)
Saturday, June 13: Day 6 – Molinaseca – Vilafranca (19 miles and our longest walking day)
Sunday, June 14: Day 7 – Vilafranca – O’Cebreiro (18 miles)
Monday, June 15: Day 8 – O’Cebrerio – Tricastela (13 miles)
Tuesday, June 16: Day 9- Tricastela – Sarria (11 miles and our shortest walking day)
Wednesday, June 17: Day 10- Sarria – Portomarin (14 miles)
Thursday, June 18: Day 11- Portomarin – Palas de Rei (15 miles)
Friday, June 19: Day 12- Palas de Rei – Arzua (16 miles)
Saturday, June 20: Day 13- Arzua – Arca do Pino (14 miles)
Sunday, June 21: Day 14 – Arca do Pino – Santiago de Compostela (12 miles and our final destination!)
– When we arrive in Santiago, we will celebrate the ‘Pilgrims Mass’ at the Basilica of St. James the Greater, Apostle. Afterwards, we will reverence the relics of St. James, and place all of our petitions at his Altar. Following Mass, we’ll take our tired feet to our hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore Santiago. In the evening, we have a private dinner and share our reflections on all that has been gained on the Camino pilgrimage.
Monday, June 22: Day 15 – Santiago
– After morning Mass at the Cathedral, the day is free to explore the lively city of Santiago…hopefully, it won’t involve too much walking!!
Tuesday, June 23: Day 16 – We depart home for the USA
